HOLA! NICE TO HAVE YOU HERE.
ABOUT ME.

My name is Marijke and I tell stories through my eyes and with my camera.

Capturing precious moments—small and big—that are meant to become an important memory.

Born in Cologne, I am trilingual, speaking English, German and Spanish. I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication in the Netherlands in 2012, lived in Berlin for eight years, and moved to beautiful Madrid in June 2018. I love to travel, running barefoot in the sand, the sound of the sea, palm trees, drinking coffee with milk and sugar and letting my nose be tickled by the last rays of sunshine.

I believe that building a warm connection with the people in front of my camera and putting them at ease is the key to taking natural pictures. Being a portrait photographer demands outstanding empathy and artistic perfectionism, both of which I prioritise.

For me, being a photographer is not just about taking pictures, but rather capturing the essence and individual beauty of the people in front of my lens.
I truly care about the people I photograph and I treat them the way I would want to be treated.

It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another to make a portrait of who they are.

A SMALL GLANCE AT

My Journey

Maastricht:
Discovering my vocation for photography

For my Bachelors at the Art Academy in Maastricht, I also wanted to follow my roots and learn Dutch. During my Visual Communication studies, I focussed on graphic design and also took all the photography courses. My former teacher encouraged me to do this and sometimes you just need someone to point you in the right direction, for which I am still very grateful today.

PS. In my full-time job I am actually a graphic designer and co-founded Epoq Studio a few years ago.

Oh, Berlin!

Berlin is different, you only plan to stay for a few months, but then the city grabs you and in my case it’s been eight years in Berlin!

I often look back nostalgically, because my time there left its mark on me, long summer nights, dark cosy (too long) winters. The city where people can club 24/7. So much culture and so colourful with its very own charm.
Berlin, I miss you!

Du bist verrückt mein Kind, du musst nach Berlin.

De Madrid al Cielo

As I write this, I still can’t believe I took the plunge and moved abroad.
A new home, new friends, a new language, but I’ve always believed—
or at least tried to—that everything happens for a reason.
Ups and downs.

You don’t know unless you try, do you?

And now I’m here and I love this city, the people I’ve met, the home we’ve made, my job and my family.

Cheers to life’s challenges and adventures.

Becoming a mum–an unconditional love

Becoming a mum is an experience I could never have imagined as it actually is. The new challenge of caring for a new little person, the unconditional and growing love, the dependency of breastfeeding, beautiful but sometimes overwhelming in all aspects.

During my first pregnancy in 2021, I discovered my new passion for maternity and family photography, which allows me to meet wonderful families and capture their new adventure. From a sincere and heartfelt perspective—exploring authentic human connections and the small chaos they sometimes bring.
